Maurice Newman's climate conspiracy a joke: top UN climate official

The United Nation's top official on climate change has described comments by Tony Abbott's chief business adviser Maurice Newman that global warming is a conspiracy against democracy as a joke.
And the opposition has weighed in as well, with Bill Shorten calling on the Prime Minister to disavow the views of his outspoken business expert. Neither Mr Newman nor the Prime Minister responded to calls on Friday.

Christiana Figueres who is visiting Australia to discuss progress toward a global deal said Mr Newman's claim that climate change was an UN "hoax" designed to lead to world domination, was a joke.

Mr Newman, the chair of the Prime Minister's business advisory council, used an opinion piece in The Australian on Friday to argue scientific modelling linking human activity and climate change is wrong and the UN's real agenda was to impose authoritarian rule. Speaking in Canberra, Ms Figueres said the comments must have been an attempt at humour. "I really don't take it very seriously because it doesn't respond to the reality or to facts," she said. Her comments were mirrored by senior political figures on both sides of politics with government ministers privately expressing withering contempt for Mr Newman's views and suggesting he had become a liability. Ms Figueres even described the Newman comments as "really good fun".

"We live in a world of free press and free opinion and, you know, if that's the humour in Australia then that's the humour in Australia ... I have my own sense of humour. It's quite fine."

Mr Shorten said: "Maurice Newman is one of Tony Abbott's closest and most influential advisors".

"Mr Abbott has an obligation to tell Australians if he shares these views, and what impact these views have on his policies," he said.

"There are many views on climate change but none are more extreme than these, and I fundamentally disagree with them." Ms Figueres would not be drawn on whether it was appropriate for Mr Abbott to be receiving advice from Mr Newman ahead of December's Paris climate talks. Mr Newman, a long-time climate change sceptic, wrote that the UN had been pushing the world to spend untold billions on mitigation of warming which wasn't happening.

Mr Newman's column was written to coincide with an Australian visit by Ms Figueres who leads the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

"It's a well-kept secret, but 95 per cent of the climate models we are told prove the link between human CO₂ emissions and catastrophic global warming have been found, after nearly two decades of temperature stasis, to be in error. It's not surprising," Mr Newman wrote on Friday.

"Why then, with such little evidence, does the UN insist the world spend hundreds of billions of dollars a year on futile climate change policies? Perhaps Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the UN's framework on climate change, has the answer?"

Mr Newman continued that global warming was a "hook" to install a new world order. "Figueres is on record saying democracy is a poor political system for fighting global warming. Communist China, she says, is the best model," he said. "This is not about facts or logic. It's about a new world order under the control of the UN." The vast majority of the world's scientists, including most of the world's scientific academies, agree humans are causing climate change. Among them, the Academy of Science, the Bureau of Meteorology and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change say greenhouse gas emissions from human activity are affecting the climate. Ms Figueres said during her visit this week that Australia would ultimately have to move away from coal for both environmental and economic reasons.

Mr Newman is a former chairman of the ABC and the Australian Securities Exchange.

Mr Newman is actually correct, the United Nations is the author of the Global Warming issue and the Champion of it. And his assessment is also correct about the true purpose of the "Global Warming" issue - that being to aid globalisation and to aid the United Nations eventual take over of the planets governments. The Book of Revelations describes this World Government as being comprised of 10 World Leaders initially but then 3 Leaders being uprooted by a dominant leader, the Anti-Christ. All the while there will be another spiritual leader supporting this new World Government and also advocating Global Warming, the Pope. This is what the Bible clearly tells us will happen in the Last Days. Anything that is promoted and embraced by the world you can be certain is not of God and is demonic in origin.
